If we do get an injured or sick chicken it will be treated with all natural vitamins, herbs and organic products that we have readily available! I think that is because we have always handled them as pets, always fed them a wonderful organic diet and they never get stressed. So far we have never had a sick hen or an injured hen. We have a nursery section and a separate hospital section in case any of them get sick or injured. Our latest news is that the hen’s coop has been upgraded to 2 very nice 12×24 totally enclosed sheds with custom built roosts and laying nests! They don’t have to suffer through the Florida heat, mosquitoes and harsh elements such as hurricanes and heavy rainy days anymore! They are simply allowed to live out their lives on the land where they grew up. Our hens are not sacrificed once they are old enough to stop laying eggs. We also never use any pesticides or chemicals on our land that could harm them or their eggs. We never use hormones or antibiotics on our hens. ![]() We feed them only natural organic feed and supplement them with fresh herbs and fruit to improve the taste of their eggs. Our hens are allowed to roam freely on 10 acres of pasture land. We now own 240 hens that provide us with enough eggs to have a small egg farm and enough eggs to share with folks in our community who would rather eat a pastured egg than any other kind. A very exciting day it was! From then on we have raised chickens as pets and developed a taste for their pastured eggs. The first egg laid is what got us hooked! It was the day we most looked forward to! The first egg was laid by one of our Araucana’s and it was blue/green. We brought them home and began our journey to learn how to take care of them. We went home that day with 8 chicks of various colors and breeds. My daughter and I were walking through the local farm and feed store one day when she noticed a container full of baby chicks. We had recently purchased 10 acres and a house in the country.
